House Staking 1

Empty Lot, Where to go?

southland plaque on logs
Where is this log going to go?

Now that the house area of the lot is mostly cleared, we need to identify where the corners of the house are going. Yes we have the septic field staked out, yes we have a survey, yes we have the dimensions of the house. But all of that falls apart once the lot is clear.

The survey doesn’t show the big ass rock in the way. The survey doesn’t show the giant tree(s) (well this one doesn’t some people get tree surveys too). The survey is a two dimensional piece of paper scaled 1" = 60'.

some tall posts we added
We added some posts to identify the area that needs to be cleared and dug out

We took measurements from the known points, then put rough posts in. We took rough diagonals to get rough right angles. We wanted to know how much trouble that gigantic rock was going to cause. Would we need to cip it, or could we move the house a few feet in one or two directions to avoid it all. Could the driveway be re-routed?

Taking a load of logs up the driveway

The answer to those questions is - no, the rock will not cause a problem, and yes we can situate the house with the rock as a focal point of the driveway and entryway.

Views

View from 100 feet above the lot
Wouldn’t it be cool if this was our view? If the house was 10 stories tall, this would be it!

While I had the drone out, and the weather was clear I sent it up pretty high and took a look around. Things look cool from 118 feet above the ground don’t they?

more logs and materials
We counted over 70 loads - pallets and the like

It was pretty cool to see all the material, there’s so much of it there, it’s all going to build a house and a garage, plus a deck. That’s one of the nicer things with purchasing a kit - it all comes at once!

This coming week is driveway clearing & filling, and general clearing within th efour corners we staked out. We’re still on track for our Superior Walls delivery.
